Movie and Drama Reviews

If you want to watch one of the following movies, please think again...

1) The Land of the Dead - it's an exaggeration of violence compared with "The Dawn of the Dead." Apart from the sympathy for and the growing intelligence of the zombies, this film is no different from the Dawn, but only flatter in creating SHOCKS.

2) Stealth - the idea about AI attacking human is already a century ago, and it's startling that you cannot identify where the climax is.

3) Seven Swords - I enjoy this kind of kung-fu film by Tsui Hark, but the pace is far too slow, maybe because there are too many unnecessary parts. I really cannot withstand Leon's saint-like handsome superhero figure and also Charlie's stiff acting. It's awful. However, I like the story, the fight scene and the swords a lot.

4) Madagascar - maybe I am no longer innocent with a pure heart, I find nothing surprising in this film, though I feel warm from time to time.

5) Fantastic Four - except for the handsome "hot" guy, I see nothing special in this film.

6) East Wing West Wing (東宮西宮之西九龍皇帝) - it's a total crap. Unwitty dialogue and shallow jokes.

They are completely personal feeling. I have no authority in any circumstance to criticize any films because i know only a little about films.

I did read some good stuff. Enjoying John Fiske's Understanding Popular Culture and have finished 村上春樹's 海邊的卡夫卡. Have read his Norwegian's wood and find it intriguing. 海邊的卡夫卡 is full of symbols and the time line is so messed up that you just want to read it from cover to cover at one time. I still cannot explain the idea about fish and blood sucking insects fall from the sky like raindrop, but it's powerful.

Star inside an apple

Only children who are not submitted to regularity and see things in the most ingenue way can discover the star inside an apple. Our curiosity diminishes as our experience accumulates. We are taught to cut an apple in a certain way, to behave in a certain way and to think in a certain way. I have long forgotten that we can cut an apple horizontally and only by doing this, we can discover the star inside it. It seems that I have never seen this star before.

Jesus once told his disciples that only children can enter the Kingdom of God. Whoever cannot adapt the new spectacles in seeing the world cannot see the treasure in heaven. I couldn't help but wonder, if the Kingdom of God is only special in children's eyes, does it mean that it is just an ordinary place for the rest of us? Maybe we need to change our point of view from this very moment so that we can still discover new things in the Kingdom of God and can value it in a different way.

Gambling

After a little talk with my friend about gambling, I keep thinking about why people still gamble when they know that the casinos always win?

It could be the whole imagine thing like the "could have won more" thought or I only put in little which doesn't harm me much or it's healthy to have a small bet.

Personally I think sometimes people gamble because they want to buy the result, an answer to the uncertain present. The present is too complex to predict so why don't you just give me an answer and I will pay for it.

Only when you are brave enough to put your bet on the table, you are ready to see your future.
